What is Postal ID in the Philippines?
An ID Card issued by the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost), known as a Postal ID, is an Identification card of the Philippines and used to verify the identity and address of Filipinos. It’s the favourite ID of Filipinos as they can get this ID with an easy, simple and short process to use as a primary identification certificate and to register for many other primary ID’s (NBI Clearance, Passport, Police Clearance and Driver’s license) in the Philippines. Filipinos living in the Philippines or any other country can get this ID. Postal ID card is also used for different Government Transactions and accurate delivery of parcels, letters and bills from the post office. You will be issued a unique postal reference number (PRN) on your postal id (PID) card which will be used as identification.

Types of Postal ID
There are 2 basic types of PHLPost ID cards that are used in philippines.
Standard ID
The old version of PHLPost ID is known as standard Postal ID. Standard IDs are those which are issued in 2015 or before this. Standard IDs are made of cardboard paper and plastic lamination. Standard IDs have some issues of authenticity. It is difficult to verify and differentiate between real and fake ID.
Improved ID
The new and improved version of PHLPost ID was launched in April 2016 and served the Filipinos as their favourite ID till march 2023 when the Government of Philippines suspended the new registrations due to some technical issues. The registration process of ID was started again from Oct 15 2024. Improved ID has biometric data and QR code for verification which makes it more secure and Valid. This improved ID has the size of wallet and is made of PVC plastic card with digital features for extra security.
Who can apply for a Postal ID?
In the Philippines, the PHLPost ID card is available for all the age groups of the population including Filipino residents and foreign residents.
- Filipino residents: All citizens of the Philippines can apply for postal ID or PID regardless of their age group. Children must come with their parents to apply for the process. Students can also acquire this ID as students are also required to verify their identity during exams and library visits.
- Foreign residents: If Foreign residents are in the Philippines for more than 6 months they are also eligible for this post ID. This ID will benefit them during their long-term stay in the Philippines.

Postal ID Application Requirements 2025
Documents required to apply for the ID are dependent on whether you are a Filipino or a foreign resident. Here Requirements are explained separately.
Requirements for Filipino Nationals
When you apply first time for the ID, you need these documents:
Application Form:

Proof of identity:
1 ID from these ID’s
- NSO-issued birth certificate
- GSIS or SSS UMID card
- Passport
- Driver’s license
- Marriage Contract
If you do not have any of these IDs, then provide 2 IDs from these (only accepted IDs with your Photo and Signature).
Proof of Address:
- Barangay certificate of residency issued within three months prior to application
- A certified true copy of the lease
- Certified true copy of titles issued by the Land Registration Authority
- A certified true copy of the real estate tax receipt
- Bank statement
- Credit card statement
- School billing statement
- Utility bill
Requirements for Foreign Residents
People living in the Philippines from other countries should have these documents to apply for a PHLPost ID:
Application Form:
2 copies of filled Application forms.
Identity Card:
Any one of these original IDs with at least six months of validity:

- Special resident retiree’s visa

Address:

How to Apply for a Regular ID?
If you want to apply for the regular procedure, follow this step-by-step procedure:
Step 1: Get the Application Form
As the postal id online registration is not available so you would need to first either download and print the postal id form or just simply request one from the post office. Visit the nearest Post office to get the application form or you can download the application form here.
Step 2: Fill the Form
Completely fill the form with the required information. Make sure you are entering the correct information.
Step 3: Attach Documents
Once you fill out the form, attach the documents as mentioned in the application form.
Step 4: Submit your Application
Submit your completely filled and documents attached application in your nearest post office.
Step 5: Pay the Fee
Pay the application fee while you are submitting the application form. The application fee for regular applications is ₱550, and for rush applications is ₱650.
Step 6: Biometrics and photo capture
After submitting the application form and fee, you will be asked for a photo capture and a biometric fingerprint. Go and complete the process.
Step 7: Receive your ID
Now, wait for your ID. It will take 10 to 15 working days. Your ID will be delivered at your door.

The procedure for regular and rush applications is the same. The only difference is the application fee and processing time. The application fee for the rush application is 650. And you will get the ID in 1 or 2 working days.

How Long Does It Take to Get a Postal ID?
The processing time period of this ID is different for regular applications and rush applications. At the time of the application you will be given application reference number which you can use for postal id tracking to check the current status of your postal identity card application.
Regular Application
In a regular application for a Philippine ID Card, the process takes 5 to 10 working days from the date of the application to the date of delivery of the ID to the applicant’s address.
The regular Application includes these four steps.
Rush Application
If anybody requires a Philippines Postal ID on an urgent basis, then they can apply for a rush application. The processing time for a rush ID application is 1 to 2 days. The process for rush application is the same as regular application but everything is done on an urgent basis. The capturing time for same day release of ID is 8:00 am to 11:00 am and the capturing time for next day release of ID is 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The rush Application includes these four steps.
How to Track Postal Id Application Status?
At the time of the application you will be given an application reference number which you can use for postal id tracking to check the current status of your postal identity card application by visiting tracking.phlpost.gov.ph website or using below this tool. To check the status enter the application reference number in the search bar and check at which stage your application is.
How much is the Postal ID Fee?
The total fee for the normal renewal or first-time applicants is ₱550. This ₱550 is the fee for the application process, ID Card and delivery charges of ID card.
The total fee for the rush application is ₱650.
What if I lost My Postal ID?
If you lost your ID, first of all report your loss in a nearby police station and get a copy of your registered report. Now, you have to renew your Postal ID. The duration of validity is based on the applicant’s residency status. For foreign residents the ID is valid for only 1 year and the validity period for Filipinos is 3 years. There is no separate temporary or permanent version of the PHLPost ID, the only difference is in the validity period.
